THE GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL ON
42 DAY DETENTION IS UNJUST AND
PLAINLY WRONG

The
Ramadhan Foundation is deeply concerned at the Home Secretary’s
announcement to increase detention to 42 days. Along with the
Director of Prosecutions, the Government’s own Terrorism Minister and
former Attorney General Lord Goldsmith millions on British citizens are
opposed to this further increase without any evidence.
This
Government has increased the detention from 7 days to 28 days without
any evidence and we are certainly on the road to a police state.
The Ramadhan Foundation urges all people in this country to join
together to oppose this immoral and unjust law, lobby your MP and join
the campaign to show that the British people will not give up their
right to due process of law and presumption of innocence.
Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Press Spokesman
of the Foundation comments:
“This Government talks has despicably
gone ahead and given up individual freedoms and basic human rights,
having asked Minister’s to provide a single case when the need to go
over 28 days is needed – this has not happened. The Ramadhan
Foundation strongly opposes this proposal and urges all UK citizens
that agree that the Government has no regard for the freedoms this
country has had for hundreds of years.
We will be lobbying MP’s from all
parties to ensure that this immoral and unjust law is defeated both in
the House of Commons and House of Lords.
Along with the Director of
Prosecutions, Lord West, Government Terrorism Minister and former
Attorney General Lord Goldsmith we agree that this law is not needed.
Now is the time to stand up and be
counted”
