Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:
“I offer my
congratulations to David Cameron MP on his appointment tonight as the
new British Prime Minister. We wish him well as he takes on the heavy
burden of taking our country forward and bringing communities together.
As this Government
moves forward we hope it holds fast to certain values like the
protection of Civil Liberties and a commitment to a less authoritarian
and intrusive Government as we sadly have had over the past thirteen
years. The discrimination of the anti terror laws where thousands of
innocent people have been held without reason has been something the
Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have opposed in opposition, we
hope this commitment extends to a review of these unnecessary and
discriminating laws.
We will endeavour to
support the Government when we agree and when we disagree we will do so
in a constructive way.
But tonight we thank
Gordon Brown for his service to our country and wish the new Prime
Minister the very best wishes.”
