WHEN WILL ISLAMAPHOBIA BE GIVEN THE SAME STATUS AS ANTI SEMITISM

Published: 07/09/2006 18:00

The Ramadhan Foundation welcomes the All Party Parliamentary Inquiry into Anti-Semitism report published today.  There can never be any justification for the racist attacks on Jewish people in this country, the sooner people realise this the better.  We believe that the UK’s Diversity is a shining example of mutual respect and freedom to practice our various faiths.

The report highlights some very worrying issues for our country to deal with, this is a challenge the Foundation is willing to take on in partnership with anyone with a shared objective to eliminate violence and racist.

The Ramadhan Foundation supports the Report’s findings in encouraging the police to record Anti Semitic crimes as such and that more dialogue between the different communities is essential if we are to see progress on this important area.

The Foundation is however disappointed that the Parliamentary report did not look at the rising phenomenon of Islamaphobia, since 911 innocent peaceful UK citizens have been the subject of untold agony and pain at the hands of racist bigots.  Mosques have been fire bombed, women in Islamic dress have been spat at and also verbally abused and the Police have arrest hundreds of innocent Muslims under the cloak of Anti Terrorism, with the vast majority released without charge.

The vast majority of Muslims respect Jewish people in this country and want to co exists in peaceful harmony in the UK.  We wish the same inquiry to investigate the rise of Islamaphobia and the verbal and physical attacks being carried out on Muslims.

The Chairman for the Foundation, Mr. Muhammad Umar comments:

“There is such a large misconception in the UK that somehow the Muslim communities are hell bent on Anti Semitic attacks, the people who carry out such attacks are a minority and we should not be held responsible for the attacks of criminals and thugs.

We are peace loving people who wish to build bridges between our diverse communities and I once again extend my hand to the Jewish community and all others, but they have to respect our right to support the people of Lebanon and Palestine who have suffered hugely at the hands of Israel.  There can never be any justification of the actions of the Israeli Government in Lebanon, to call for this is not Anti Semitic as some lobby groups claim but is us standing with the oppressed against state sponsored terrorism, People who call this Anti Semitic are demeaning the  true meaning of the word.

The Government and Parliament need to investigate the rising Islamaphobia and hate crimes that are being carried out in the UK since 911.  If you want to increase respect and belief in the political process then the community needs to see that this is being carried out by an independent inquiry, but will we get this, I sadly think not”
