The Ramadhan
Foundation is horrified at the Government’s suggestion at giving
ASBOS and tagging people they suspect are involved in terrorism
but do not have enough evidence to prosecute.
This Government has been responsible for taking away individual
freedoms from law-abiding innocent Muslims and also launching an
attack on Muslims to practice their faith.
The fact that this is coming from Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney
General who’s role is to ensure that the process of law is being
carried out and that the due process reaches its conclusion is
appalling. This proposals smacks against the right to a free
and fair trial and goes against many principles of justice
gathered over hundreds of years.
We are clear that those that are suspected of involvement in
terrorism and extremism should and must be put on trial and the
evidence presented, if they are found guilty so be it but if
they are cleared then they are innocent and should not be
hounded by authorities that wish to get a result quickly.
The Ramadhan Foundation is very clear in our opposition to this
ridiculous proposal and urges the Government to listen to the
voices calling for the legal process to complete its course.
Mr. Shazad Anwar, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
“I am appalled at this proposal, there was a great thing in this
country that was built over centuries and that was innocent till
proven guilty, this Government is determined to take us back to
the dark ages and into a police state.
Lord Goldsmith should re consider on this issue, where is the
law going to be monitored under these proposals and why will
people not get their day in court.
Everything this Government does on these important issues
panders to the right wing and prejudices of the media.
We demand equal justice”
