BIRMINGHAM PROTESTS ARE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF ISLAMPHOBIA
Published: 07/09/09 17.00
The
Ramadhan Foundation strongly condemns the violence and demonstrations
carried out by the English Defence League in Birmingham, these protests
are nothing but an excuse to whip up hated towards Muslims and disrupt
Birmingham’s diverse communities.
Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
“The protests by the English Defence League are about attracting
fascists, racists and anti Muslim brigade to whip up hatred against
Islam and I condemn these protests in the strongest terms.
I support the right to free protest but where those like the English
Defence League pander lies and misrepresentation of Islam and attract
violence they should be banned.
Birmingham as well as the rest of the UK values the positive
contribution Muslims are making to our country and these vile people
represent the extreme minority of the country.
I am however disappointed our Politicians have failed to provide
leadership against this sort of hatred; they must defend our nation’s
diversity.
In light of the English Defence League’s reputation for attracting
violence, all future protests should be banned.”
