Today the Ramadhan Foundation joins the vast majority of
the British people in calling for Tony Blair to resign
as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The Government
cannot afford to have this uncertainty to cloud over all
Government activity.
Tony Blair was elected in 1997 after 18 years of
Conservative government, we were promised responsible
Government and an ethnical foreign policy – what we go
in reality was double standards in foreign policy, one
rule for the west and another for the Muslim and third
world countries. The Foundation rightly supported the
Government on its attempts to crack down on
institutional racism by highlighting the Race Equality
Scheme published in 2003. This placed a legal
obligation on the public sector to outline how they
intended to eliminate this from their organisations, we
welcome the Government recognising that the Government
has failed to live up to the Race Relations Amendment
Act 2000 and that more activity needs to be done.
Tony Blair was responsible for taking the UK into an
illegal and unjustified war in Iraq, over 100.000
innocent people many of them children were murdered. We
were told about Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq,
these failed to appear and even today Tony Blair fails
to accept the reality that there were no WMDs because
Saddam Hussein did not have none.
And in 2006 Tony Blair give the Hitler like state of
Israel free rein in destroying and killings in Lebanon.
He stood and watched over 1000 people being killed of
which a third were children, a million displaced,
buildings and basic infrastructure destroyed to the
point of no return. He refused not only to condemn
Israel’s action but also refused to call for an
immediate ceasefire. The blood of these innocent people
rest ultimately with the Prime Minister and his cronies.
Mr Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Foundation comments:
“The Prime Minster does not command the support firstly
of the British people as only 36% of the population
voted for him, his party, Loyal MPs and Cabinet
Ministers are anxious for him to resign. In light of
his deplorable actions in the Lebanon war resignation
should be the only option, he must be held accountable
for the liars about Iraq and Afghanistan.
We urge the Prime Minster to resign within the coming
months and hope his successor will do more to create an
environment where dialogue between communities can be
restored. Diversity must be valued and celebrated “
