HAZEL
BLEARS AND CORE VALUES
Published: 25/02/09 14.00
Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief
Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:
“I am deeply disturbed by
Hazel Blears and her strategy to eradicate extremism and terrorism,
typical with her whole style has been about isolating and labeling
people and then refusing to engage with certain groups or individuals.
The threat from extremism
is real and we must all come together to ensure its tackled, what is
not useful is for Government Ministers to talk about engagement and
then refuse to meet people who disagree with their positions on certain
issues. I have for many years urged the Government to identify
core values, to this day they have failed to produce them, remember the
Prime Minister talking about Britishness which was quietly dropped even
before it was started.
Thankfully we are not
reliant on Hazel Blears or the Government to do our work to tackle
extremism; the grassroots work will go on whilst Government Ministers
are not really interested in hearing what the public have to say on
important issues”
