DAME
STELLA RIMINGTON AND TERRORISM
Published: 17/02/2009 11.00
Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan
Foundation comments:
“I welcome the interview by former head of the British
Security Service Agency MI5 Dame Stella Rimington that the British
Government has been exploiting the threat from terrorism to curtail
civil liberties without any evidence or attempts to preserve the right
of free people and future generations.
The threat from terrorism is real and the Muslim community
have done a great deal to work together as a nation to identify and
eradicate this evil, what we now need from the Government is a honest
acceptance that you cannot defeat terrorism by taking about individual
freedoms.
This is a damning indictment of the Government’s blatant
breach and we applaud Dame Stella Rimington for speaking up publically.
The Government must also accept that foreign policy and
matters arising from that are used by extremists to brainwash people,
these issues must be dealt with also.”
