DARFUR CRISIS CAN BE RESOLVED THROUGH DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION, LORD AHMED COMMENDED

Published: 22/04/08 15:00

The Ramadhan Foundation wants to commend and support the latest peace initiative aimed at the conflict zone of Darfur in Sudan.  It is through this sort of discussion and dialogue that peace can be achieved between all the parties involved in the crisis.

Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Ramadhan Foundation, is now urging all Muslims in Britain to show their support for this imaginative project which is being led by British Peer Lord Ahmed Nazir, we strongly commend his work and those of his delegation.

The Muslim-only venture appears to have captured the imagination of political opponents and rivals in the troubled region of Darfur and to the astonishment of sceptics; the delegation has laid the ground for a very real chance to find a possible solution to a conflict which has consumed politicians in the West for years.

Mr. Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Foundation comments:

"Lord Ahmed has achieved in a few days what western Governments have been trying to do for some months now, and that is bringing together political rivals and factions to sit down and talk peace.

While he is the first to acknowledge that there's no quick fix solution he has already gained the trust of all of the parties involved,

Lord Ahmed's delegation met with senior leaders from the heart of the five year long conflict at the weekend. All pledged their support for the initiative.

Other members of the delegation included journalist and Muslim convert Yvonne Ridley and Syed Lakht e Hussnain, chairman of Muslim Hands charity which has offices in Khartoum and several projects on the Darfur region.

To get behind this initiative the Ramadhan Foundation is urging Muslims to contact their members of Parliament urging them to support Lord Ahmed as well as writing to him personally at the House of Lords in London or sending him an email at ahmedn@parliament.uk
