UK Riots and Eid ul Fitr 2011

Published: Wednesday 24th August 2011 18:10

Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:

“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Ramadhan Foundation to wish all people around the world Eid Mubarak. Muslims have spent a whole month fasting, prayers, giving charity and a time when families and communities are drawn together in anticipation for the breaking of the fast. During the month of Ramadhan, Muslims around the United Kingdom and all over the world have observed a month of fasting which begins at dawn and ends at dusk, and the festival of Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of month of fasting.

The tragic murders of Shazad Ali, Abdul Musavir and Haroon Jahan in Birmingham demonstrate that the Muslim community is passionate about defending our cities and nation from looters and criminals.  Their sacrifice will forever be remembered and we urge people to remember the families of the dead in their prayers during this Eid ul Fitr.  The riots in the UK had nothing to do with race, religion, poverty but was criminality and selfishness and we commend the work of the Police.  We stand ready in the Muslim community to offer our support to the Police in their difficult duties but are certain that the majority of British citizens abhor what was done during the riots.

I would like to urge people to continue to give to the people of Somalia and also Pakistan.  In Somalia there are over 400 000 children in real danger of death and disease due to the famine and in Pakistan river levels are rising again and there are fears for a repeat of last year’s floods.  Whilst we celebrate in happiness and in wealth please spare a thought for them and make a donation through our partner Ummah Global Relief.  www.ummahglobalrelief.com

I hope that wherever you are you have a great day with your families and friends.”

END
