The French courts decision to acquit
the French weekly magazine that reprinted the disgusting Danish
cartoons is a smack in the face of tolerance and respect. The
European’s seem to have one rule for other faiths and
secularists and one for Muslims. We European Muslims demand
respect for our faith and our symbols.
The right wing
press is determined to create division amongst our
communities. The Ramadhan Foundation calls on all those that
oppose the blatant racism and xenophobia to stand up against
these double standards.
The Ramadan Foundation also calls
for Muslims to remain calm during these attacks on our faith and
we will never allow our faith to be tarnished by the actions of
a small minority. We must build a Europe that values diversity
and celebrates religious differences.
Mr. Shazad Anwar, Chief Executive of
the Foundation comments:
“When will people realise that we
cannot demand respect for European values and then support the
denigration of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
This acquittal sends the wrong
signals and falls into the traps of the bigots and fascists, we
would urge European governments to resist from allowing this
filth to be broadcast in the name of freedom of speech.
“It is a sad day when Muslims
feelings of hurt are rejected out hand despite the massive
evidence to the contrary.
