GILLIAN GIBBONS RELEASE IS
GOOD NEWS FOR THE UK, COMMON SENSE PREVAILS

The
Ramadhan Foundation welcomes the release of Gillian Gibbons after her
conviction in Sudan; her continued detention would not serve anybody’s
interest.
We
pay tribute to the British Foreign Secretary David Milliband MP and the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office both here and in Sudan for their work
and measured and calm way they dealt with this crisis. We also
thank President Bashir for pardoning Gillian and allowing her to return
to the UK tonight.
If
anything good has come of this crisis is that it has brought the
diverse communities closer together here in the UK and the unequivocal
response from the Muslim community shows the massive changes that have
been made. The Ramadhan Foundation is pleased that it took the
lead in presenting opposition to Gillian’s detention in the media from
the Muslim community; we thank all those Muslim leaders and spokesman
that have spoken with one voice against this crisis.
Mr.
Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Foundation comments:
“The
Ramadhan Foundation welcomes the release of Gillian and is pleased she
is on her way home tonight, we wish Gillian and her family the very best
wishes for the future. We thank the Sudanese President Mr. Bashir
for his intervention and pardon.
The
Ramadhan Foundation deeply appreciates the many emails of support we
have received to this crisis and welcomes the coming together of our
diverse communities in the UK.
Once
again the Ramadhan Foundation has been leading the response from the
Muslim community and we thank everyone involved for their work and hope
this friendship can blossom further, only together can we build a
better society.
I
am grateful for all their support and kind words”
