GLOBAL MOVEMENT FOR MODERATES IN KUALA LUMPUR
MALAYSIA

The Ramadhan Foundation is pleased to announce
that its Chairman Shaykh Muhammad Umar will be
attending and speaking at the Global Movement of
Moderates (GMM 2012) Summit being held from 16th
- 19th January 2012 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
The GMM 2012 is organised by the Prime Minister
of Malaysia H.E. Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak
and this initative was included in the final
communique of the Commonwealth Summit 2011 in
Perth.
The Global Movement of Moderates is an
intitative that seeks to promote a loose union
of independent individuals committed to pursuing
an enduring and peaceful co-existence. At a
time of great division amongst communities
across the world on grounds of race, faith or
gender we require a coming together of people to
say no to division and hatred and this Summit is
the beginning.
Shaykh Muhammad Umar will be addressing the
Summit on the topic of “Democracy and
Moderation” the session will also include the
former Vice President of Indonesia
HE. Dr. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former Irish
President Mary Robinson and Senior UN
Representative Dr Helena Barroco.
His presentation will call for Muslims to return
to the path of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
which was moderation and commit to buiding a
world free of bigotry and hatred. Shaykh
Muhammad Umar will also be meeting various
Malyasian Ministers throughout his visit and
also engage with the international media at the
sidelines of the Summit.
Shaykh Muhammad Umar comments:
“It is a great honour to be asked by the
Malaysian Prime Minister to attend this
important Summit and address it on the topic of
democracy and moderation. I commend the Prime
Minister for his intiative to promote moderation
and stamp out hatred and division. The Ramadhan
Foundation since its formation in 2005 has been
committed to building unity amongst the Muslim
family and also ensuring that there is peaceful
co-existence between our diverse communties
regardless of faith, gender, race or
nationality. We have led the way in taking on
extremism, hatred, division and our record in
this area will allow me to provide a real
insight at the Summit.
Malaysia is a shining example of moderation and
peaceful co-existence and I know this Summit is
the first step in buidling an alliance for
moderation across the world. Let us all commit
to this worthy cause which will define the
future of coming generations.”

by Malaysian Prime Minister
Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak in his address to
the United Nations General Assembly in September
2011 and was also included in the fianl
communique of the Commonwealth Head of
Governments Summit held in Perth in October
