LLOYDS TSB TO STOP INTERPAL ACCOUNT IS
IMMORAL AND UNACCEPTABLE, BOYCOTT OF THE BANK IS CALLED FOR
Published:

The Ramadhan
Foundation expresses its total shock and amazement at Lloyds TSB
decision to force the Islamic Bank of Britain to cease all
account activity with the International aid organisation Interpal. The Foundation has hosted events with
Interpal and at the heart of their work is helping those in Palestine that are
suffering from oppression, starvation and lack of freedom.
We are certain the
Charities Commission will once again find no wrongdoing or
misadministration as they have on many previous occasions, these
allegations are false and one without basis, there’s something we often
talk about, innocence till proven guilty, Lloyds TSB decision to ban
the Bank flies in the heart of this great value.
We urge Lloyds
TSB to withdraw this threat and allow the Charities Commission to
complete their inquiry, if they fail to do this, the Ramadhan
Foundation will urge Muslims across the UK to boycott Lloyds TSB
until this decision is withdrawn.
We shall shortly
be beginning extensive consultations with Muslim organisations in the UK
about a formal boycott of Lloyds TSB; they must understand that
continuation of this immoral policy will lead to a dent in their
profits.
Mr. Mohammed
Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
“Lloyds TSB
should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, to
do this to a charity that spends every second saving lives in one of
the most deprived and oppressed societies like Gaza
and the West Bank. What they should be doing is waiting
for the Charity Commission report before any action, we are certain
they will be cleared.
I give notice if
they fail to withdraw this proposal we will lead a cross community campaign
to boycott Lloyds TSB in this country, we are open to discussions with
the Bank but they must be in doubt of the serious hurt this decision is
causing in the Muslim community.
