GOVERNMENT MUST HOLD A PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO THE 7/7 ATTACKS

Published: 01/05/2007 14:00

The Ramadhan Foundation calls on the Government to hold a full public inquiry into the 7/7 attacks on London.  With every passing day the story which the Government has told is being contradict by evidence presented, their continued refusal is a massive blow for justice and very hard for the victims.

There have been many failures by the police and security services in the lead up to the attacks and the only way for the nation to move forward is for all the questions to be asked and answers provided.

These failures need to be investigated and to totally dismiss a public inquiry is shameful.  By asking for an inquiry does not divert attention from security and fighting crime, these bodies should be able to multi task.  Muslims have been demonised since 7/7, thousands of innocent people have been arrested, their reputations and standing destroyed, 52 people lost their lives in those attacks and still the Government refuses to listen to the millions calling for an inquiry.

The Ramadhan Foundation has written to the Home Secretary today to urge him to reconsider his decision to hold an independent and public inquiry.

Mr. Shazad Anwar, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:

‘It seems to me that there is a huge case of double standards going on, if the threat of terrorism is so great that they are prepared to try & introduce laws that threaten our civil liberties....then surely it is important enough to have a public enquiry.

Laws are not going to stop this happening again but understanding why it happened might just begin to on the other hand.

The government must understand that the needs of the people is paramount and if there have been failing by the Security Services and police then the lessons need to be learnt.

The Ramadhan Foundation urges the Government to reconsider its decision, please listen to the victims and their survivors”
