REV NAZIR-ALI IS INCITING RELIGIOUS HATRED AND
SHOULD RESIGN

The
Ramadhan Foundation is deeply concerned and horrified at today’s
article by Rev Nazir – Ali, Bishop of Rochester. His article in
the Sunday Telegraph is once again an attempt to whip up hatred against
Muslims and cause division. There now seems to be a clear pattern
emerging from Mr Nazir-Ali over the past few years that have clearly an
objective to promote intolerance towards Muslims.
For
many years the Church of England and the Muslim community have worked
together to build understanding and tolerance between our two faiths,
the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have reached out to our
community and the Muslim community have done the same. Mr
Nazir-Ali has not contributed to this exercise rather he has worked to
undermine it and create division and intolerance.
He
talks in his article about extremists making communities no go areas
for Christians yet he can not give any specific example of this, he
talks about compassion and justice yet he wishes to deny Muslims this –
Mr Nazir-Ali comments remind people of the road to Nazism.
Mr
Mohammed Shafiq, Press Spokesman of the Foundation comments:
“The
Ramadhan Foundation is horrified by Rev Nazir-Ali’s comments and it is
clear from this latest racist and prejudice article that he is
determined to create unnecessary division and hatred towards
Muslims. We therefore call on him to resign his position in the
Church of England as his latest comments are not conducive to the
tolerance and respect Archbishop Williams is promoting.
The
reality is that the United Kingdom is a majority Christian country but
is also a country of multi faith - I believe the UK celebrates this
diversity and all religious communities should work together to build
respect and an environment of tolerance.
Mr.
Nazir-Ali is promoting hatred towards Muslims and therefore should
resign”
