PRESIDENT
MUSHARRAF’S RESIGNATION IS GOOD NEWS FOR PAKISTAN
Published: 18/08/2008 15:00
The Ramadhan Foundation welcomes the resignation of Pakistani President
Pervez Musharraf as great news for Pakistan and an opportunity to build
for the future. Over the past nine years under dictatorship Pakistani
people have suffered in terms of poverty, oppression, dictatorship,
terrorism and even after Musharraf the poverty and oppression will go
on.
We urge the Government of Pakistan not to blindly follow the US in
foreign policy and have a policy that reaches out to all in the nation
and friends around the world, a relation that is based on trust and
equality not as a servant as Musharraf was.
Mr.
Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
“I
welcome Pervez Musharraf’s resignation as President of Pakistan and hope
that the Government of Pakistan will get on with tackling terrorism,
poverty, deprivation and unemployment.
Life
under Musharraf has been hard for ordinary Pakistanis and will probably
be no different under the new Government, this is the most important
policy area for any Government, yet the Pakistani Government is more
interested in playing musical chairs.
Pakistan must free itself from dependency from Western powers; decisions
should be made by Pakistan and not by outside forces, change is on its
way but it must be lasting change”
