BURNING OF THE QURAN AND UN MURDERS

Published: 03/04/2011 16:00

Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:

"The burning of the Quran by Pastor Terry Jones and his bigots should be condemned without reservation and also we condemn the senseless murder of UN staff in Mazar e Sharif.  There can be no justification for such murderous crimes and we urge the Afghan authorities to bring the terrorists to justice.

The burning of the Quran is an attack on all decent people and we should do whatever we can to highlight the disgusting nature of such acts.

Condemnation alone is not enough and we urge the US and western Governments to establish hate laws to protect the holy scriptures of all faiths and nothing less than this will be enough to stop such evil people from threatening the peace of our communities.

I welcome President Obama’s condemnation of the Quran burning but we urge him to go further.

Here in the UK recently those extremists that burnt the poppy are rightly prosecuted but when known fascists burn the Quran no prosecutions are undertaken – I am concerned ah the negative nature of inaction against Quran burners and impact of such perceived double standards on young Muslims.

We all have a duty to come together against such bigotry and there should be no justification for the burning of the Quran.

Finally I urge Muslims around the world to protest peacefully and do not allow these bigots the opportunity to vilify our communities"
