Ramadhan 2011, Norway and Far right terrorism
Mr.
Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan
Foundation comments:
Published: Monday 25th July 2011 2:42pm
Firstly
our hearts go out the victims and their families
on the appalling evil terrorist attacks in
Norway, the way promising, young lives have been
destroyed is just so sad and we send our
solidarity and support to the families and their
friends.
The
Ramadhan Foundation has been consistent in
saying that both UK and European Governments
have failed to address the ever increasing
threats posed by right wing and Nazi groups.
We have
discovered as a result of media reports that
there were links between the EDL and this
terrorist in Norway which deeply concerns our
community as we are at the forefront of their
vicious, racist, and vile attacks.
As the
holy month of Ramadhan will begin this weekend,
we have urged all Mosques in the United Kingdom
to increase security and ensure that they are
more vigilant about suspicious packages that may
be left near Mosques. People travelling to
Mosques should be aware of being followed or any
verbal attacks – these must be reported to the
Police.
The
Government’s recently announced terrorism
strategy has one line about the far right and in
light of the attacks in Norway this will need to
be visited.
Sadly
over the past few years, politicians, the media
and commentators have created an atmosphere of
hatred, prejudice and damn right lies about
Muslims and Islam – which has fed into an
increased level of attacks on Mosques and our
community. To ensure that nothing ever comes
between our diverse communities in the UK we
need responsibility from all sections of our
society.
We will
pay a heavy price if we ignore the telltale
signs as a result of these terrorist attacks in
Norway.
