GILLIAN
GIBBONS SHOULD BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY

The
Ramadhan Foundation today urges the Sudanese Authorities to do
everything in their power to release British teacher Gillian Gibbons,
only by releasing her will this saga end.
The
children in her class named the teddy Muhammad and at no stage has she
set out to deliberately offend or demonise Islam or our symbols.
She accepts that she has made an honest mistake and therefore should be
released.
The
Ramadhan Foundation is clear that here in the UK we compel incoming
migrants to the UK to learn British values, customs and culture it is
important that when British citizens go abroad they learn the customs,
religious beliefs and culture to enable this sort of misunderstanding
not happen. There are attempts by the usual suspects to demonise
and attack Muslims and Islam – we urge people to refrain from this.
Mr.
Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Foundation comments:
“The
Ramadhan Foundation urges the Sudanese Authorities to immediately
release Gillian Gibbons as she has not set out deliberately to offend
or demonise Islam and Muslims. This matter is not worthy of arrest
or detention and her continued detention will not help repair the
misconceptions about Islam.
Like
Migrants coming to this country have to learn English, our values and
customs, it is imperative that British citizens learn the values,
customs and beliefs of their adopted country.
The
usual suspects are using this to demonise and attack Islam; this is
wrong and is racism and prejudices in its worse sort.
We
stand with all those that stand up against this oppression”
