Swiss
ban on Minarets – Sad day for religious freedom
Published: 29/11/2009 19:06
Mr.
Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:
“The
result of the referendum in Switzerland on the banning of minarets
tonight is a sad day for religious freedom. A constitutional amendment
just for Muslims is discriminatory and another example of the modern day
oppression Muslims are subjected to in Europe.
The
reputation for religious tolerance and freedom in Switzerland has ended
tonight, the international community is right to condemn this oppression
and we urge the Swiss Government not to introduce this discriminatory
law.
I urge
people across Europe who believes in religious freedom to stand united
against this evil, today it is Muslims tomorrow it will be Jews, Sikhs
and Hindus – This is an attack on all faiths.
I
comment the Swiss religious communities and faiths for their unity of
opposition.
