SCHOOLS TOLD TO COUNTER EXTREMISM – UK GOVERNMENT COMMENDED
Published:

The
Ramadhan Foundation welcomes the Government's toolkit on tackling
extremism and terrorism as a useful tool to help those in the education
profession to deal with issues in a sensitive way.
Firstly the threat from terrorism and extremism is real and we must all
work together to not only eradicate this evil but deal with some of the
underlining issues of why young people are attracted and brainwashed
into following this evil way.
We welcome the sensible language that is used by Ministers and in
particular Ed Balls MP, his approach has been one of encouraging the
whole country coming together to deal with this threat, it is not a
Muslim,
Christian or Jewish problem but a UK problem.
Mr.
Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
"I welcome the Toolkit introduced today by Ed Balls MP and the
Government,
I commend him for his hard work in bringing all faiths and people
together,
I was impressed with his determination to change the language of the
debate when
I met him and we thank him for changing the language in this matter.
The toolkit sets out in detail in the challenges for Schools and pupils,
the threat is real and we must all be alert
only by working together can we defeat this evil.
I also welcome recognition from the Government that it has to deal with
underlining issues where people are brainwashed into extremism and
violence, we
welcome their focus on far right BNP extremists groups and this is
why many in the Muslim community will welcome the toolkit as balanced
and fair.
"I pay tribute to the government for their balanced and detailed toolkit
and encourage all schools to take up the challenges on this important
issue sensitively.
