Following on from the brutal attack on Muslims in a Salford
Mosque yesterday the Ramadhan Foundation is today laying the
responsibility on the Politicians like Jack Straw, David Davis,
Phil Woolas and other Government Ministers. They have created
in the past few weeks a climate of fear and prejudice towards
Muslims in the UK.
Their comments have fuelled criminals and thugs to attack
innocent Muslims doing the most peaceful thing which is pray.
The Foundation a few weeks ago did warn that the Politician’s
negative comments was fuelling this hatred and creating an
atmosphere where people go into Mosques and attack people.
We urge people to remain calm and allow the police to complete
the full enquiry and there should be no justification for these
attacks from any quarter. Politicians should now realise the
full impact of their attacks on Muslims is having on communities
and realise they need to be more responsible in future.
Secondly Trevor Phillips is wrong to suggest that after all
these attacks on Muslims and Islam that our community will
retaliate with violence and riots; he is seriously misguided to
suggest that we respond with violence, he needs to stop
patronising our community. Muslims will continue to speak out
against the victimisation of our community in peaceful means and
we will not allow people to distort the reality on the ground
Mr. Shazad Anwar, Chief Executive of the Foundation comments:
“The responsibility of these attacks rest with politicians that
have in the past few weeks created am atmosphere of hatred where
those on the far right and criminals have thrived through
violence. We did warn Politicians the effect of their attacks
was having on Muslims and this proves our point.
We urge two things, firstly that Muslims need to remain calm and
secondly Politicians need to stop their daily attacks against
Muslims.
Trevor Phillips is offending the Muslim community by suggesting
that Muslims may respond to these attacks by violent means, he
is wrong to suggest this conclusion.
The head of the CEHR needs to be far more responsible when
commenting on sensitive issues, we ask him to withdraw these
comments”
